We Are American Brown Women.
We had found some bias in the skincare industry in regards to our specific needs / wants as brown people for skincare. We decided to do research to find a product that we would want to use on a daily basis for our skincare. We were born with the perfect skin shade so do not need or want to get a tan and this is what started our line of products. There are multiple sunscreens out there that may prevent tanning but they are not for daily use because of the inherent properties of having to be re-applied every 2-4 hrs and the feeling of having something on your skin throughout the time you have them on.
We created products that last 24hrs and are moisturizing lotions so you can not tell that you have applied them just as with a normal moisturizing lotion. They also do not cause the whitish discoloration that a lot of sunscreens do. We do not necessarily need sunscreens because most of us do not get sunburns and our risk of skin cancer is very low. These products are not sunscreens and do not protect against sunburns or skin cancer but do prevent tanning.
Sunscreen products are also known to contain many ingredients that are harmful to us and the environment and as such, we should be very careful in use of sunscreen products especially since most of us do not need the added protection from the sun that these carry. We are very passionate about the needs of people of color and have done research to get to the point where we are confident in our products working and will continue to do research to provide the kind of skincare we can use and be proud of.
